OVERVIEW

Antigua is one half of the Caribbean island nation, Antigua and Barbuda, an independent state which is part of the British Commonwealth. Antigua is the larger island and has garnered a global reputation for its spectacular scenery, soft white beaches and vibrant atmosphere. The capital of the country is situated on this island; in fact, Saint John’s is the only city on Antigua, and is home to a plethora of restaurants and bars as well as casinos and various stores selling everything a visiting tourist might need during their island sojourn.

Tourists can reach Antigua by air and by cruise ship. VC Bird International Airport is located just outside Saint John’s and receives international flights from the US and the UK as well as smaller regional flights. Once on the island you can get around by renting a car, taking a taxi or a local bus; alternatively you might want to rent a luxury yacht during your stay on this Caribbean paradise.

Unsurprisingly the main attractions on Antigua are its pristine white sand beaches and its coral reefs. The island offers excellent scuba diving and snorkelling, and you can also hire a dinghy or a cruiser to explore the picturesque coves and bays to be found on its coastline.

On Sunday evenings make your way to Shirley Heights Lookout for an evening of Antiguan party music and delicious barbecue – not to mention spectacular sunset views. The venue’s Sunday Parties are an Antiguan institution and have been going strong for more than 30 years – be sure not to miss it.
