OVERVIEW

Vietnam is a bewitching land blessed with a rich culture, spectacular scenery, pristine beaches and delectable cuisine which rivals – and, some would say, exceeds – that of Thailand. Whether you are drawn here because of its history, because of the vibrancy of its heritage and its people, or because you want to explore its beautiful landscapes, a trip to Vietnam is sure to be unforgettable. Delve into the history-laden streets of fascinating cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh, explore breath-taking beauty spots like Cat Tien National Park and the pristine Con Dao Islands, or simply relax on a white-sand beach and savour the pleasure of doing nothing. Whatever the holiday you have in mind, Vietnam undoubtedly has a great deal to offer.

The range of accommodation options in Vietnam is excellent and varied, so you are sure to find the hotel to suit you, whether you are travelling on a shoestring budget or keen to splash out on a luxury resort. Finding your next meal in this gourmand’s paradise is also sure to be no hard task, as, like the Thai’s, Vietnamese love their food – and so they should, as the sheer variety of tastes and textures is guaranteed to seduce even the most jaded of palates. From the Chinese-inspired dishes of the north to the spicy offerings of the south, the cuisine you will encounter in this South-East Asian nation is second to none and is sure to become a lifelong love affair.

As for planning your itinerary, the tough part will be choosing what not to do or see, as Vietnam boasts a plethora of options for holidaymakers, whether you are keen to spend your vacation hiking, visiting temples, lazing on a beach, or soaking up as much history and culture as you possibly can. Head to Hanoi and wander the atmospheric streets of the Old Quarter, witness a dawn tai chi session beside the sun-gilded expanse of Hoan Kiem Lake and admire its centuries-old pagodas. Visit the War Remnants Museum and the vibrant markets of Ho Chi Minh City. Head underground to explore the incredible spectacle that is Paradise Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, visit the hill tribes who call the lush Vietnamese highlands home, or set your sights on Halong Bay with its 2000+ wind-scoured islands jutting out of the glittering waters of the Gulf of Tonkin.
