OVERVIEW

The city-state and island nation of Singapore has built up a glowing reputation over the past few years, reinventing itself from a somewhat sterile lay-by en route to more colourful destinations – to now emerge, phoenix-like, as a colourful destination in its own right. A country which seamlessly toes the line between the traditional and the super-modern, Singapore is a riot of gilded temples, glittering skyscrapers, stately colonial buildings and lush green spaces populated by chattering birds and monkeys. The perfect place for a fascinating city break or even an exotic South-East Asian holiday, a sojourn spent in this vibrant metropolis is sure to prove unforgettable.

Unsurprisingly there is an excellent selection of accommodation available during your Singapore holiday, ranging from 2 star guesthouses through to lavish 5 star hotels (and everything in between). Finding something to eat is also not going to be a hard task, as Singaporeans are notorious for their love of delicious food, and as in so many other Asian cities a meal is never far away whether you are after some tasty street eats or a gourmet meal in an upmarket restaurant. Thanks to its status as a vibrant cultural melting pot, Singapore boasts a rich and varied selection of ethnic cuisines, ranging from Indian to Malay and Chinese, and the island’s own traditional dishes have been undergoing a very modern reinvention in many fine-dining eateries.

In between indulging in mouth-watering delights, there is so much for you to see and do on the island, whether you are a history and culture buff, interested in picking up some amazing retail bargains, looking for fun in the sun on Sentosa or simply keen to relax and be pampered in a luxurious spa. If you’re visiting with kids for a family holiday to Singapore, make sure you head to the outstanding Singapore Zoo, the perfect family day out, while the resort island of Sentosa is another must-do. Keen to experience local history and culture? Visit some of the city’s fascinating museums and historic sites, such as the 19th century Baba House or Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple in Serangoon Road in Little India.

Shopaholics will want to head to Orchard Road, while nature lovers are sure to enjoy scenic strolls in the Botanic Gardens or a trip to the unspoilt rainforest of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve – the perfect way to reconnect with nature away from the hustle and bustle of the city streets.
