When is the Best time to Visit Bali?
Bali is nicknamed the Island of the Gods and it’s not hard to see why. The island is the epitome of paradise and draws in millions of visitors each year. It is best known for its black sand beaches, towering volcanoes, opulent culture and exceptional surfing activities which are sure to make for an eye-opening and jam-packed holiday. For a pocket-sized island, there is plenty to see and do from enjoying water sports to exploring the temples and rich landscapes or simply kicking back and relaxing on the beach. If one thing’s for sure, Bali has something for all.
The overall best time to visit Bali is between May to September thanks to drier and less humid conditions, with sea conditions that are perfect for undertaking all types of watersports.
Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect when visiting Bali during each month of the year:
Visiting Bali in January
January is the wettest month in Bali with rainfall averaging around 3500mm. You can expect frequent rainstorms that last for the majority of the day. Despite this, the average daytime temperature is a pleasant 30 degrees which drops to around 24 degrees come early evening.
Visiting Bali in February
February has similar conditions to January, with heavy and constant rainfall throughout the day– however, you may spot the occasional break of sunshine peeking through the clouds. High temperatures and frequent rainstorms mean you can expect a very muggy, tropical climate.
Visiting Bali in March
Bali’s rainy season comes to an end in March. Now, rainfall is lighter and not as frequent. Despite this, most of the day will remain cloudy with some spells of sunshine.
Visiting Bali in April
As April is the first official month of the dry season, you can expect brighter days and settled weather which is ideal if you’re keen to go off and explore Bali. With less dampness in the air, humidity levels drop which makes for a more comfortable climate for sightseeing. As there is very little tourist activity in April, it’s the perfect time to visit if you wish to avoid the crowds.
Visiting Bali in May
May is one of the most pleasant months for visiting Bali. While temperatures are still relatively hot, humidity levels are low, so you may feel more comfortable spending time outdoors.
Visiting Bali in June
June is a great time to visit Bali – humidity levels drop, so the weather feels fresher. However, this month marks the busy tourist season in which thousands of visitors will fly to the island for their summer holidays.
Visiting Bali in July
Much like June, you’ll experience very little rainfall with hours of unbroken sunshine during July. As humidity is still very low, you’ll be able to explore comfortably without getting too hot and sweaty. Again, July remains busy with tourists flocking to the island.
Visiting Bali in August
August is believed to be Bali’s driest month, with an average of only 15mm of rainfall. If you’re keen to spend your days lounging on the beach or embarking on outdoor adventures, this may be the best month for visiting. However, do be aware that August is Bali’s busiest month so you can expect significant numbers holidaying on the island.
Visiting Bali in September
September is typically the ‘back to school’ month in most countries, so the island becomes less congested as tourists start to fly home. This is a great time to visit if you enjoy the peace and quiet and less hustle and bustle. Much like August, the weather is still warm, bright and dry so you can see and do all that Bali has to offer at your own leisure.
Visiting Bali in October
October marks the beginning of the annual rainy season – so you can expect more frequent rainfall and humidity in the air. Throughout this month, the average rainfall stands at 90mm so you may wish to pack a waterproof! Surfers will be in their element though, as October is the month for riding some of the world’s best waves along the Bali coastline.
Visiting Bali in November
With the start of the rainy season already in play, November has its fair share of rain. However, you shouldn’t let this deter you from visiting. Unlike England’s dark and miserable November days, you can still enjoy a few hours of sunshine so you can get out and explore.
Visiting Bali in December
During December, rainstorms become more frequent, while humidity levels remain extremely high. On average, it rains approximately 16 days of the month. Why not make the most of the wet weather by trying your hand at water sports in the ocean?
