The National History Museum of Mauritius, Mahébourg

At the National History Museum of Mauritius you will travel back in memory lane of Mauritius’ colonial history where you can see the few remaining skeletons of the Dodo and the tortoise in the famous story of the extinction of the Dodo. The National Museum of Mauritius is the oldest museum of Mauritius which is divided into four galleries; Fauna Gallery, Marine Life Gallery, Insects, Meteorology, Giant Tortoise Gallery and The World of the Dodo. The Black River park is designed for all nature lovers and bird-watchers, but more than that, this park is in the area of the rarest forests in Mauritius. This park holds most of the Islands remaining forests, be sure to spot the Mauritian flying fox for a truly amazing animal find.

For other tropical creatures, look out for kestrel, pink pigeon, parakeet, cuckoo-shrike, bulbul, olive white-eye, grey white-eye and the fody.
