Overview

With its spectacular landscape, which encompasses five of the seven biomes – including forest, savannah and fynbos – Pumba Private Game Reserve is guaranteed to enthrall with its natural beauty. Even better, the park is home to the famed Big 5, one member of which is the majestic White Lion, not to mention 250 species of bird and more than 6o different species of mammal. You can view this diversity of wildlife courtesy of the game reserve’s game drives, bush walks, birding safaris and night drives. In between explorations of the bush, treat yourselves to indulgent spa treatments and feast on cordon bleu cuisine. Children are welcome at Pumba and can enjoy a variety of activities, such as learning to identify different plants and insects, roasting marshmallows over an open fire and making their own wildlife-shaped chocolates.

Room Types

There are two lodges to choose from at Pumba Private Game Reserve.  

  • Pumba Water Lodge

    Pumba Water Lodge overlooks Lake Cariega and consists of 12 thatch-roofed stone chalets, each one exquisitely appointed and providing you with picturesque views.
  • Impala Chalet

    There are 8 Impala Chalets which feature four-poster king or twin beds, 3 Gemsbok Chalets, which offer a choice of king or twin beds, and one lavish 2-bedroom Kudu Suite with a private steam room and separate lounge. Accessed by winding timber paths, these elegant chalets boast private wooden decks, outdoor showers and other desirable amenities.
  • Msenge Chalets

    The other accommodation option in the reserve is Msenge Bush Lodge, nestled above a watering hole and also looking out over the flood plain of Lake Cariega. This lodge consists of 10 Msenge Chalets with a choice of four-poster king or twin beds, and 1 Family Chalet with two en-suite bedrooms. All of these chalets also come with private timber game viewing decks, free-standing tubs, outdoor showers and other luxury amenities.

Facilities

Both lodges come with a selection of 5 star facilities carefully tailored to make your stay in the park even more comfortable and convenient., boasting a GUEST lounge with satellite TV, a waterfront pier and sundeck and a library, among others.

Msenge is also home to a restaurant, a Bush Bar, a reading room and lounge with fireplace for the cold winter months. Like Pumba Water Lodge, this camp comes with free wireless internet and a curio shop but Msenge also happens to include the lavish Soul Spa and a fully equipped gym.

Soul Spa is a haven of relaxation and indulgence in the middle of the African bush. In this blissful wellness retreat, skilled therapists provide you with a menu of treatments ranging from full body wraps to manicures and hot stone therapy. You can also take advantage of the steam room and plunge pool or unwind with a brisk workout, the ideal way to burn off last night’s delicious cordon bleu dinner.

Of course the main attraction at Pumba is the wildlife; during your stay at the reserve you will be able to take part in Big 5 safari drives, thrilling night safari drives which allow you to encounter the park’s nocturnal creatures, and birding safaris – the perfect option for keen bird-watchers.

Other enjoyable activities are also on offer, including guided bush walks, bass fishing on Lake Cariega, and even the ancient sport of archery. In the nearby area, you can try other pastimes such as horse riding, sky diving, hiking, golf and historical tours.
