Room Types

The 37 tents of the Governor’s Main Camp are carefully spaced out to provide guests with a delicious sensation of privacy and solitude. Some overlook the rolling plains of the Masai Mara while others face out over the river.
  • Safari Tents

    Every classic safari-style tent is large and spacious, allowing in plenty of natural light and air. They come with one double or two twin beds and feature a bathroom with hot shower as well as a veranda, the perfect place to relax and look out for wildlife.
  • Family tents

    These tents are ideal for families and groups, sleeping two adults and two children. The spacious family tents are big, bright and allow in lots of natural light. Each classic safari-style family tent comes with one double and two twin beds, an en-suite bathroom area divided by a canvas wall, complete with a hot shower and veranda including facilities such as electric lamps, charge points for cameras and phones as well as a deck for wildlife viewing.

Facilities

During your stay at the camp you can expect to experience some of the best game viewing in the world, courtesy of the camp’s custom-built Land Rovers and experienced guides. There are two game drives every day through the Masai Mara, and you can also opt for an unforgettable Hot Air Balloon safari which will give you a bird’s eye view of the spectacular landscape below and concludes with a lavish champagne breakfast in the bush.

Other activities available include cultural visits to a local Masai manyatta, where you can meet the tribespeople and get a taste of their fascinating way of life. There is a curio market at the manyatta, where you can purchase items of traditional Masai beadwork, perfect keepsakes or gifts to take back for friends and family.

Another experience not to be missed is the opportunity the camp affords you to take either a day or overnight trip to the stunning island of Mfangano on Lake Victoria. The island is home to a luxurious camp with lush tropical gardens and a swimming pool. During your time on Mfangano you can bird-watch, go fishing, admire the ancient rock art or enjoy a thrilling boat ride on the lake.

Restaurants

Wining and dining at Governor’s Main Camp are provided by the separate dining and bar tents. Breakfast and lunch buffets are served al fresco and the campfire is lit at sunset. Picnics / packed meals can be provided for those who would like to head out on full or half day game drives. Bush meals are available to book at an extra cost.
  • Restaurant tent/bar

    The dining tent faces out over the breath-taking Mara Plains and is the perfect place for a romantic candlelight dinner, while the bar tent provides an ideal venue in which to relax with a drink and admire the rippling waters of the Mara River.
