Destination is key
When planning a surprise holiday the first question you need to ask yourself is “Where do they want to go?” – is there a dream destination that you have discussed with them before that have they dropped in conversation: “I would love to go… / I have always wanted to go to…”
If your surprise holiday is for a birthday or anniversary, is there a place they would love to re-visit or has been on their bucket list for some time?
Think about the time of year you plan to go
Now you’ve got the destination in mind, think about the time of year that suits you and the person you’re surprising as well as considering the best time of year for good weather as you don’t want to book their dream holiday to find out that it’s rainy season…
Find out what they really want
If there’s not a particular place that the person your surprising wants to visit, you may need to do a bit of research by talking to them about their likes and dislikes, fears and thrills so that you can help plan the perfect surprise.
Keep the surprise going throughout the trip
One of our biggest tips is to keep surprising through the trip, even after you’ve revealed the initial surprise of the holiday! Great ways to continue surprising through the trip is booking an airport lounge but don’t tell them until you get the airport, or arrange a room upgrade for the last few nights of the stay, booking a dinner as a surprise at a specialty restaurant is also a lovely way to surprise them or book a spa treatment as a really lovely treat! Any destination that you think the recipient will love is a great surprise holiday destination. If you’re looking to surprise the man in your life, Las Vegas is a popular choice!
For romance, the Indian Ocean offers breathtaking destinations such as the Maldives as you can mix room types throughout your stay, book private dining on the beach or champagne breakfasts on the sandbank. Seychelles is also a great option as you can island hop!
